Someone gave me a compliment the other day…said I always looked like a queen.  Hmm…well I suppose I am a princess since I am the King of Kings daughter and if you know me you will remember that I am queen sized, haha.

Really I think what she meant was that I usually present myself as “finished.”  I wear modest, classic or fashionable clothes. I learned to apply my makeup from a professional makeup artist. I wear accessories that compliment my face and body type and my clothing choices.  Why? Because I represent the Kingdom of God to everyone I meet and I want to be a good ambassador for Jesus.

Our outward appearance is not as important as what is in our inmost being, but it is all the world can see.  So, what do we, as modern Christian women, do with that?  Do we adhere to the tenets of my Grandma’s church?  They don’t allow the women to cut their hair, wear pants, or makeup.  Do we look like some of my fellow homeschool moms (and their matching children) in their 1990’s denim jumpers and fluffy hair bows?   (One of my daughter’s favorite stories is how a new acquaintance said to her, “but you don’t look homeschooled!”) What kind of message does that sort of presentation give to a modern world?  Would they suppose that to follow Jesus means they will have to dress weirdly?  That isn’t what we are trying to say, is it?

Because there isn’t a Christian fashion industry we feel quite worldly when we choose to be a part of the existing one.   However we are trying to communicate a message of Good News to a world that always gages its interest based on the messenger. Jesus said we were to be in this world but not of it…wise as serpents but gentle as doves.  Can we apply that to how we dress and present ourselves?   We also have been told to take the good and leave the bad behind …we can do that can’t we?  What about the admonition concerning good stewardship?  How many of us have wasted good money on clothes we never should have purchased? Let’s all make an effort to do the most with what God has given us…our bodies, our talents, our money, our hair!  Be modest, don’t make your brother stumble (he will look, and you know it.) Be contemporary and wise in your fashion choices. Get some help from your friends!!

There is so much more to this than this space has room for.  The beauty that waits to be revealed in your life can change the lives of those around you.  It is a reflection of your Creator.  The enemy of your soul would like to keep you pushed down and covered up.  To keep you focused on what you think you don’t have rather than celebrating the beauty that you are!

Satan is always saying that we are too much or too little…too much trouble, too much talk, too much effort to understand, too injured from your past, he says you are too little or weak to do something, or too poor, or too stupid, or too ugly, too fat, too skinny, or not educated enough, or not quiet or loud enough, not brave enough…anyone heard some of these?  Don’t let satan (or other people he uses) lie to you about who you are.  Look to the Creator of your heart to find out what you have to offer.

Whatever you bring to the table won’t be just like your sisters.  Each offering is unique and uniquely beautiful.  Some women light up a room with their smiles, others give the best hugs, others make the very best coffee and offer it to all that will come.  Some women can total a household budget and find extra money in all the right places and it is a beautiful thing to behold.  Some women can paint pictures, or decorate homes to make them more receiving.  Others draw children to them with their kind hearts and tender mercies.  Yet others can run a company and do a fine job of it…using the tools that God gave them as women to be successful.  They don’t do it just like a man, they don’t have to.

But we all can look good while we do all those things, you know?  There is a great book by Norma Day called Seven Secrets to Timeless Beauty that will help you get started on a good makeover. Or call me and we will have lunch.

    hawai'i or bust

    Hi folks,
For those of you that don't already know this...Thom and I met in high school on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu.  Our first date was our Senior prom (he was a keeper)...he was the Master of Ceremonies...and I just hung around and looked beautiful.  Well that was 1979.  Most of you weren't born yet huh?  We started college at the University of Hawai'i Manoa ...Thom attending 2 semesters and I attended 3...(Brother Bill and sister-in-law Suzanne are graduates.)
We were married in 1981, on July 25th at the Main Post Chapel, Fort Bragg, NC.  So, if you do the math we have been married 25 years next Tuesday!  I have not been back to Hawai'i since I left there in 1980.  Thom has been back only once for business (and a visit to his twin's house on O'ahu for a week.) Sooooo....we are leaving tomorrow morning for 7 days in Hawai'i!!!  We will be there for Thom's 45th birthday on Friday and for our anniversary next week!!  Can you tell I am excited?
God has been so good and faithful to us.  We truly have a marriage that is an incredible example of how it is supposed to be...we are exuberantly blessed, happy, satisfied, blessed,  loved, happy, joyful, blessed, ...did I say blessed?  It was good to begin with and has only gotten better over the years.  Ask my kids.  Ask anyone that knows us.  It is true. How did we do it you ask?  Well, when we married we agreed that we didn't want a marriage like the ones that we had seen modeled for us.  We decided to treat each other with honor and respect.  I fully submit to his headship and he loves me like Christ loves the church...and we appreciate that about each other.  So much of a marriage relationship comes down to what kind of words do you speak to each other. How do you treat one another when no one else is around?  Be consistent...be consistently kind and loving, prefering one another over yourselves.  Lose the argument...on purpose...see what happens.
At first I worked more than he did until he finished his degree...then I choose motherhood over a career and have been home since I was 6 months pregnant with Zachariah...a long time in other words.   TV production was never as entertaining as kids, let me tell you.
So, that is my history in a nutshell.  Wish me a happy silver anniversary...I deserve it!!

    Hi folks,
Okay...Warcry was the 12-16 in VA..more about it following... came home to a wedding rehearsal (me directing) an hour after arriving home...wedding Sat the 17th,  my boys went to Charlotte to pick up Nathanael the nephew from West Point for the weekend, then church on Sunday ...then Father's Day for the afternoon in Benson...then Nathanael back to Charlotte on Monday (the Zach and Rachel) and I taught a silk ribbon embroidery class for the guild that evening, then Caleb went home on Tuesday (from Raleigh)...washed clothes for days and did some theophostic...Josh went to Guatemala on Saturday (left here at 7 am)...(Thom's friend died on Thursday...funeral on Monday...)Sunday morning I left for KY with my mom...Grandmother having congestive heart issues...stayed until Friday...home to do Theophostic with my friend that evening (we are making progress!)  then Saturday entirely off!!  Sun...church and Thom home from Albany ...pick up Josh on Monday night home at 11:30 pm!  Wow...it was busy living it all and just writing it makes me tired all over again!  I said to Pastor Pete that maybe I was having a few boundary issues...He said maybe I was being stretched!  It wasn't like I could have said no to most of what was going on...

Okay...Warcry.  I now know why my kids would come home and say, "it was great, I need some sleep."  The theme was "Go" as in "go ye into all the world and preach the gospel."  and there were over 500 folks there ready to say yes.  The Worship was awesome...the Word was true and the kids (and a lot of the adults!) were delivered and healed and filled with the Holy Spirit!  I truly did have a few appointments...situations where my life's testimony made the difference in someone receiving ministry...one of the young girls said, "wow, being filled with the Spirit is so awesome!"  My response to her was "Yes, it is , but wait until you get to minister in the Holy Spirit to someone else!"  That was what I experienced... ministry on a bigger scale than ever before...realizing that I cannot do this but, WOW, the God I serve is so incredibly able to do this through me!!!  Seeing what God can do through prophecy and deliverance through intercessory prayer!  He is real and He is awesome (and He loves me!!!)
One of the interesting things I learned was shared by my friend Marcia Woodward.  She has been on the mission field for like 20 years or more...she made the point that Jesus is the Lord of the whole earth and He deserves to be praised by every tribe and tongue...that is the true motivation for translating the Word and traveling to share the gospel!  I think where I grew up they talked about getting the Word to everyone that hadn't heard so that then Jesus would come back...it is kind of a works mentality...but to understand that Jesus is the King and deserves praise....from people (and in a language) that have never praised Him before...wow!  She was moved to tears as she shared her heart for His praise.  And she passed on the truth of this message to me.  I am changed.
I had also heard my kids rave about how God just really shows up at Warcry...well He does...but the fun thing for me was that the God of Warcry is the same God I meet daily in my quiet time!!  So, I am praying for all of the folks that attended...Yes!  God is able to meet you in the quiet place and change you there the same way He meets you at Warcry and changes you there!  He never changes!!  The same yesterday, today and forever!!  It is your heart that is more open at Warcry...you are more focused on hearing His voice...well do it at home too!  Drop the things that keep you from His presence and just "GO"!!!  He will meet you and refresh you and speak to your heart and change the things in your life that need changing.  God is real...and He is able...and He is not afraid of your questions or your issues (you know, He is not afraid of anything right?)
okay...long enough post for now.  you need to listen to this CD by Matt Redman...a lot of the Warcry worship songs this year were from this CD.  enjoy!  blessings!
